Date: 9 February 2017 at 8 pm.
Venue: The Golf Tavern, 30-31 Wrights Houses, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, EH10 4HR.
Food: Light buffet provided.
Speaker: Presentation by Conchúr Ó Brádaigh of The University of Edinburgh on “Alternative Structural Materials for Wave Energy Convertors”
The structure of wave energy convertors (WECs) tends to be made of steel and other traditional materials, in many cases due to the prototype state that the industry is at. Alternative materials such as polymers, elastomers and composites can make a contribution towards reducing the projected LCOE of WECs, in particular when volume production of devices is considered. The presenter will give an overview of the status of these materials and technologies for WECs and of some work planned for the near future to develop the technologies further.
Prof. Ó Brádaigh’s presentation is available here.
