7:30 pm (talks to start at 8)
The Golf Tavern, 30-31 Wrights Houses, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, EH10 4HR (www.golftavern.co.uk)
The WES control call has been announced. Given this is bound to be what we end up talking about anyway, we thought we might as well make a thing of it, and throw in a buffet while we are at it.
We will have two presenters followed by audience questions.
Ross Henderson, from Quoceant, wrote the landscaping study for the WES control call. He will share his perspectives on wave energy control system design, drawing on his experience of developing the control for Pelamis.
Andy Clegg is from ISC Ltd, an established controls consultancy based in Glasgow. His presentation will focus on how best practice in control design for other offshore industries can be applied to wave energy. Using examples from ISC projects, he will discuss the use of dynamic simulations to develop control systems, address key design decisions early on, such as actuator sizing, and predict performance. Later the simulations can be reused to support software- and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and for in-service diagnosis and upgrades.
The event is kindly sponsored by the University of Edinburgh‘s Innovation and Policy Research Group, led by Henry Jeffrey. You can find out more about them here.
